60 seconds with..... Chief Executive Jan Ross

Date: 03 August 2022

How long have you worked at The Walton Centre?
Since November 2018. I came as an Interim Director of Operations and Strategy and loved it so much I stayed.… I was appointed as the CEO in June 2021. #BestJobEver.

What’s your background?
I have been in the NHS for 30 years. I started my nurse training in Liverpool in July 1992 and worked at The Royal Liverpool as a surgical nurse, Matron and Divisional Nurse Director, before moving to Warrington and then Southport.

Tell us about your role in one sentence.
I see my role as impacting on patient care by creating the right environment, culture and training opportunities for staff.

What would you be if you were not Chief Executive?
I would be a nurse of course, I am a very proud nurse and loved the privilege of caring for patients when they are at their most vulnerable. I can’t imagine not working in healthcare.

Favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of my job is meeting and talking to our amazing staff, seeing them proud of the services they provide.

What’s the first thing you do when you get home from work?
Mmmmm, well I shouldn’t say drink wine so I will say I usually take my dog (Lola the Cockerpoo) for a quick walk, and then sit down and eat with my family, husband and three children, Connor 18, Jack 14 and Poppy 10.

What’s your favourite song and film?
I have loads, I will say The Source featuring Candi Staton ‘You’ve got the love’, and then Pretty Woman or Wonder Woman.

If you could have a pint or pizza with anyone in history, who would it be?
Has to be Flo - Florence Nightingale. I might ask Emily Pankhurst to join us too.
