Getting involved in research

At The Walton Centre, we pride ourselves on having a strong focus on research, helping develop new treatments and groundbreaking surgical techniques to help patients with many different neurological conditions. Patients are at the heart of research, and it is only with your help we can achieve this. There are many ways to get involved in research, which may help assist in your care or help others in the future.

Taking part in a trial

Your doctor or a researcher may approach you during your time at The Walton Centre if they believe you to be suitable for a clinical trial. They will discuss the nature of the trial, what it will involve, and may provide you with an information sheet. You are free to decline in participating in these studies if you wish – your case will not be affected in any way.

From time to time, research studies may be advertised on posters throughout the Trust, or posted on our social media pages on Facebook or Twitter. Please also visit our clinical studies and trials page to see a selection of some of the trials currently taking place at the Trust.

The NIHR (National Institute for Health Research) also maintains a database of clinical trials which may assist you in finding a trial that suits you at our site or elsewhere – for more information please click here.

If you wish to enquire further, please feel free to contact us at wcft.rdi@nhs.net with your enquiry and we will try our best to help you and potentially find a trial that may suit you.

Please be aware that, due to many clinical trials focusing on certain illnesses or conditions, patients may be carefully selected based different criteria. These include such things as age, gender, and medical history. Therefore even though you may be interested in taking part in a trial, if your details do not fit these narrow criteria you would not be eligible to take part.
