The Neurology service provides specialist care to patients across Cheshire, Merseyside, North Wales and the Isle of Man. Our network of satellite clinics operates from 15 acute hospitals, providing both outpatient services and support to inpatients. It is a large and busy neurology service which in 2020/21, saw almost 70,000 new and follow up outpatients and treated over 3,500 inpatients in either The Walton Centre’s day case or ward facilities.
A multi-skilled professional team includes 46 consultants and 28 specialist nurses, who work alongside an experienced therapy team to provide the holistic and multidisciplinary care required for our patients. Sub-speciality clinics are also provided in epilepsy, movement disorders, headache, neuromuscular, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, vascular and neuro myelitis optica.
Dr Anita Krishnan is the Divisional Clinical Director for Neurology. Dr Jay Panicker is the Clinical Director for Neurology.
Dr Nicholas Silver
Dr Silver established the headache service at The Walton Centre in 2004 and since that time has expanded this service to include four headache subspecialist consultants and two clinical nurse specialists.
Dr Christine Burness
Dr Christine Burness is a Consultant Neurologist at The Walton Centre. She is joint clinical lead of the Functional Neurology Team and also the Trust Guardian of Junior Doctor Safe Working.
Dr Sundus Alusi
Dr Sundus Alusi has been a Consultant Neurologist since 2004 and has a special interest in movement disorders. Since 2020 she has been the clinical lead for movement disorders at The Walton Centre.

Dr Wojciech Pietkiewicz is a Consultant Neurologist at The Walton Centre.
Dr Roger Mills
Dr Roger Mills is a Consultant Neurologist at The Walton Centre specialising in multiple sclerosis.
Dr Jay Panicker
Dr Panicker is the Clinical Director for Neurology and a Consultant Neurologist.
Dr Baba Aji
Dr Aji is currently a Consultant Neurologist, specialising in epilepsy at The Walton Centre and also provide general neurology clinics to Ysbyty Gwynedd and in North Wales.
Dr Martin Wilson
Dr Wilson has been a consultant at The Walton Centre since 2005. He is also CCIO (clinical IT lead) for the Trust.
The headache service provides clinics to support four consultants specialising in headaches

The Functional Neurological Disorders Service provides multidisciplinary assessment and onward referral to appropriate treatment services.
Epilepsy Specialist Nurse Service
Our specialist nurse service provides patients, families, carers and other health professionals information and advice regarding epilepsy and its management.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is the most common potentially disabling disease of the central nervous system affecting young adults.
The Walton Centre has a world-class reputation for our epilepsy service. Our epilepsy services are huge and comprehensive, including specialist video-telemetry diagnostics, an epilepsy surgery programme - offering the full range of procedures - and specialist neuropsychological support for patients with epilepsy and those with non-epileptic attack disorder.

The MS nurse service offers support, advice, information and education to those with a diagnosis of MS.
